Welcome to Tossed Cookies, a blog about me, my pets, anxiety, and pet poisons
When I started working in the field of veterinary toxicology, I was struck by the lack of available poison information to the average owner. While many websites and services offered to guide you and your vet through the process of treating your poisoned pet, it’s fairly difficult to find out information on why you are doing what you’re doing.
Then about six months ago, my panic disorder started giving me trouble again. I visited a doctor who gently informed me that my medications were no longer working for me. Eventually, I was forced to quit my job because I was unable to function consistently while I waited for new medications. So I decided to start Tossed Cookies – a blog about my field of knowledge, partially to keep me distracted, but also to keep a log of my experiences and improvements. It helps to know that I am not losing myself to the fear.
Yes, Tossed Cookies means what you think it does. It represents our favorite part of treating an exposure, going through the vomit to see what’s there.
This blog is not geared towards giving treatment advice, but rather to alert you to common poisons and to delve into what they do to your pets. If your pet has been poisoned, contact the ASPCA Poison Control Center or the Pet Poison Helpline for immediate treatment recommendations.
If you wish to contact me directly with specific questions about your pet, you can now contact me or another specialist via JustAnswer/Pearl.com to speak one on one about your issue. While I specialize in poisons, I can answer other questions about your pet, too! There is a separate form for dogs and cats to make sure your request goes to the right place:
